Madeira, Portugal. A tiny cluster of volcanic islands in the Atlantic Ocean, with dramatic cliffs, stunning landscapes and a sub-tropical climate, Madeira is a brilliant place to come and explore.
We had a few days on the main island and being only 35 miles long and 13 miles wide, we managed a large loop with our rental car, sticking mostly to the rugged coastline. With spectacular scenery at every turn it was a pleasure to drive around, with some excellent hikes in the places we stayed. I really loved Madeira and would love to return some day!
